Understanding the Cultural Landscape of China
Prof. Jiang Fei - Chinese Academy of Social Sciences – Communication and Journalism Institute
In recent years, there were several keywords related with culture and communication studies in China, i.e. Soft Power, Chinese dream, Community construction, Culture Renaissances, Politic Communication and New Media, etc. These keywords outlined a logic connection of the contemporary culture and communication in China: the growth of the new media played as the technologic motive and support, the Chinese dream played as a superstructure construction of culture and ideals, the culture renaissances played as a main actor improving the community communication through the new media, and the soft power strategy played as a role to enhance amelioration of politic discourse and political communication capability. Under the “Great Development and Flourish of Chinese Culture” policy and the central government's heavy support, China’s culture industry became not only a pillar of the national economy but also an influential path of branding China oversea.
This seminar, organized by The China Media Observatory (CMO) of Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), is in order to promote an active and mutual communication between European scholars/students/ people who are interested in China and our distinguished Chinese visiting scholar on a further understanding about China’s culture industry /cultural development strategies, China’s media system, as well as the Chinese culture in the modern interpretation.
